Effective June 26, 2022, new claims will only be effective the week you submit your claim application. Once you’ve completed your application, you can start filing for benefits the following Sunday.
During the height of the pandemic, we understood there were a number of significant challenges customers had getting hold of us or using the Online Claims System for their initial claim to be processed on time. Because of these challenges, we allowed for backdating of new claims for up to one week, meaning that a new claim could be effective the Sunday prior to the week it was filed.
As the volume of initial claims is now manageable, we will no longer allow backdating of initial claims.
Example:
You become unemployed June 15, 2022, and file an initial claim July 12, 2022. This initial claim is effective July 10, 2022, and the first week you can file a weekly claim is the week of July 10, 2022 through July 16, 2022. The earliest day you could claim this week is Sunday, July 17, 2022. You are not eligible to claim weeks between June 19 and July 10 because you did not file your claim until July 12.
