You are considered temporarily unemployed if you meet all of following conditions:
- You have been laid off or had your hours reduced and expect to return to your employer.
- You are returning to full-time work or work that pays more than your weekly benefit amount.
- There will not be more than four weeks between the week you became temporarily unemployed and the week you return to work.
If these conditions apply to you, you are considered temporarily unemployed and can fulfill your requirement to be actively seeking work by staying in contact with your employer. If your return-to-work date changes and is beyond four weeks, you must contact us and begin actively seeking work and reporting five work-search activities per week to us at once. If you do not contact us with your updated return-to-work date or do not seek work as required, your claim will stop.
You can focus on seeking temporary work until you return to your regular employer. You do not need to register in iMatchSkills, but will be required to do so if you do NOT return to work or your return-to-work date is delayed.
Example 1:
Your last day worked is April 9. Your return-to-work date is May 11. You are temporarily unemployed because you are only laid off three weeks (full calendar weeks).
In this example, you would NOT be required to perform work-seeking activities.
Example 2:
Your last day worked was April 16. Your return-to-work date is May 28 or later. You are NOT temporarily unemployed because you will be off more than four full weeks.
In this example, you would be required to perform work-seeking activities.
Example 3:
Your last day worked is April 2. On June 21, the employer states you will return to work on July 5. You are NOT temporarily unemployed because you will be off more than four full weeks. In this example, you would be required to perform work-seeking activities.
Example 4:
Your last day worked was April 18. Your employer told you that you would be back to work soon, but could not confirm either a specific date to return to work or an estimate within four weeks. You are NOT temporarily unemployed because you do not have a return-to-work date.
In this example, you would be required to perform work-seeking activities.
