With federal pandemic unemployment programs ending, all new unemployment insurance (UI) claims will have a waiting week as required by Oregon law. The waiting week was temporarily waived during the pandemic, but that waiver ended Sept. 4.
The waiting week is the first week of your regular UI claim when you meet all eligibility requirements. You must claim the week, but you are not paid for it. You still need to file a weekly claim for the waiting week and meet all other eligibility requirements, including completing your required work-search activities.
The waiting week does not impact the number of weeks that you receive benefits or the total amount you may be paid. It does mean you need to wait until after the first week you are otherwise eligible for unemployment insurance benefits to get those benefits.
