To be considered actively seeking work you must:
- Devote at least 40 hours a week to working for or establishing your business or businesses, if you have more than one.
- Maintain records of invoices and efforts attributed to maintaining your business.
If you are also working part-time for an employer, you can deduct the hours that you work each week from the 40 hours you need to devote towards your self-employment. For example, if you worked 10 hours in the week for your part-time employer, you would need to devote 30 hours towards your own business.
