We understand that you may not be able to pay us back immediately. We know many Oregonians are in a difficult situation, and the last thing we want to do is ask you to repay the benefits you believed you were eligible for while you are still financially struggling.
We are not currently issuing any wage or bank garnishments. We will develop a payment plan with each individual based on the circumstance and type of overpayment. We are taking advantage of all flexibility options and are drastically minimizing our overpayment collection activities during this pandemic.
If you did cause the overpayment, either due to a mistake or an intentional misrepresentation, we will use our collection tools including the following:
- Requiring that the overpayment be repaid.
- Intercepting state tax refunds for all overpayments that were caused by the claimant or intentional misrepresentation.
- Intercepting federal tax refunds on claimant-caused overpayments for misreported earnings and on all intentional misrepresentation overpayments.
Note: If we approve your waiver after we have already reduced part of your benefit to pay back the money you owe us, we will reissue your benefits for that week, as long as there are no other outstanding overpayments. If your claim’s status doesn’t show that your benefits have been reissued to you five days after you received notice that your waiver was approved, please call 503-947-1995 or use the Contact Us form to notify us. Write “Overpayments” in the “Issue Description” box on the form.
